Mesa County Federal Mineral Lease District Cancels Spring Grant 2021 Cycle

GRAND JUNCTION, CO – The Mesa County Federal Mineral Lease District (MCFMLD) Board cancelled the Spring 2021 Grant Cycle at their January public board meeting on January20, 2021.

With the significant cuts to district funding, the Board opted to roll all the grant funding into one cycle. The Fall 2021 Grant Cycle will move forward as scheduled, beginning August 1st. The MCFMLD has $350,000 for fall grant awards.

Last fall, the MCFMLD received their annual disbursement check of $495,556.20. This disbursement payment is approximately 45% decrease from the previous year’s DOLA payment of $925,022.53.

The MCFMLD uses these funds to administer their grant program that funds various community projects strictly within Mesa County. The District is authorized by statute to distribute funds and provide services to communities impacted by the development of natural resources on federal lands within Mesa County.

Federal law limits how lease payments distributed to the Mesa County Federal Mineral Lease District can be used. The distribution may only be used by the state, or its political subdivisions, for (1) planning, (2) construction and maintenance of public facilities, or (3) provision of public services.

The meeting details will be provided on the website long with their Facebook and Twitter page.  For more information regarding MCFMLD, please go to our website www.mesafml.org.
