Mesa County Federal Mineral Lease District awards $225,000 in Spring 2018 Grants
GRAND JUNCTION, CO – The Mesa County Federal Mineral Lease District (MCFMLD) Board of Directors has awarded a total of $225,000 to three Mesa County public entities.
The awards in the Traditional Grant Program totaled $175,000 and went to:
• Clifton Sanitation District for Sewer Line Rehabilitation in the amount of $75,000;
• Mesa County Public Library District for the East Library Project for the partial funding amount of $100,000
The award in the Mini Grant Program totaled $50,000 and was made to:
• City of Fruita for Cedar Way Infrastructure Improvements in the amount of $50,000.
Since the district was formed in 2011, the Clifton Sanitation District has been awarded seven grants from the MCFMLD totaling $825,000. The Clifton Fire Protection District has also been awarded three grants since 2011, totaling $189,064. The total amount the Clifton area has received in grant funding from the MCFMLD is $1,014,064.
The City of Fruita has been awarded four grants totaling $510,000 since 2011. The Lower Valley Fire Protection District has been awarded two grants totaling $100,000. The total amount of grant funding from the MCFMLD the Fruita area has received is $710,000.
The Mesa County Public Library District has been awarded two grants since 2011, totaling $149,964.04. The prior grant was awarded for the 970 West Studio at the library, totaling $49,969.04.
The Grand Junction area public entities have been awarded 19 MCFMLD grants totaling $3,026,940 since 2011. The awards have gone to the City of Grand Junction, Grand Junction Police Department, Grand Junction Fire Department, Grand Junction Parks and Rec Department; Mesa County Public Library District, Mesa County Valley School District #51, Caprock Academy, Colorado Mesa University, Western Colorado Community College, Grand Valley Drainage District and the Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority.
Entities eligible for these programs are limited to the state and its subdivisions. Grant awards are evaluated through a scoring process that examines important factors such as ability to address the impacts of energy extraction, long-term value, and sustainability of the project.
